P.A.F Plus ..... improved Tone / Definition / Clarity & 3D sound / 7.5k

Kinman takes unbalanced coils to new heights.  Un-balanced coils but not un-balanced hum = Zero-Hum.  All un-balanced coils in humbuckers produce hum, but not Kinman's.

P.A.F Plus v2 (v2 is more silent than previous model - 25-Jan-2019)

A much improved PAF which works better in the neck position than conventional humbuckers and is excellent for the bridge position too if you want a little less dirty\nasal growl than a regular humbucker.  Featuring vastly improved Tone / definition / clarity on the low wound strings with minimized blurring from the low notes in the neck position, thanks to Kinman’s Triple Alnico Tone advantage.  The neck position has well defined and clear low notes that have a hint of twang and a nice little dose of piano tones in the mids. 

If you want a humbucker with exceptionalsplit single coil sound please consider the Converge-3 which produces a great Fender sound in split mode with Zero-Hum.

P.A.F Plus Fat Custom

This special model retains the warm fatness and thump of conventional humbuckers on the low wound strings, definitely a few steps back from single coil territory, while having a very noticeable improvement on the 3D effect over ordinary humbuckers.  It does an incredible balancing act between that typical murky humbucker sound and single coil clarity similar to that of our 59+ LPS.  It's great for Heavy Rock all the way along the sonic spectrum to Blues and it's especially good for Jazz .... and it's good for stuff in-between too.  One customer rated it as the best Jazz humbucker he has ever tried, saying "this one is special, it seems to have a certain magic that I have not heard before and I'm wrapped".

Recommend mainly for the neck position paired with a P.A.F Astound v2 or 59+ LPS in the bridge.

NEWS Flash 15-Dec-2020 - Now available with 47.5mm pole spread that suits the neck position prefectly on Gibson's and and other guitars that have a narrow 52mm spaced bridge.  This has been made possible with our CSCT (Coil Spread Compensation Technology) that restores the performance that is lost when poles are spaced closer together.

Our Humbuckers cancel hum better than any other humbucker but there is another type of noise called 'buzz which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars)

Kinman humbuckers are different and unique among countless PAF copies… an improved PAF by accenting the best characteristics of the classic PAF sound and de-emphasising less desirable attributes.  Remarkable for it’s piano-like mid tones, increased touch sensitivity and dynamic response which are vastly improved compared to a vintage PAF style humbucker.  Also it has better midrange detail and noticeably sweeter highs.

Recommended for Neck position, also the Bridge position with a Kinman P90-Bucker in the neck position for a nice and sweet both-on-together sound and is great for both neck and bridge positions on Arch-top Jazz guitars too.  Noticeably better than any conventional humbucker in the neck position which have the usual characteristic of tending to be woofy & mushy with a big lack of definition of the wound strings.

Direct replacement for conventional humbuckers such as Gibson, Duncan etc.  Some guitars (a few Ibanez, some Fender Strat and one or two others) have pickups with excessively rounded corners.  If a pickguard is fitted (for example Fender Strat Deluxe) please consider our Humbucker-Tron.

Split single coil is the Secondary coil, the one without adjustable screw poles or the one that's closest to the opposite pickup.

Hook-up cable

• Standard is 2 conductor shielded
• Can be split so 3 conductor hook-up cable is optional upon request.
• Phase reversing  can also be done with 3 conductor hook-up cable.
• Not recommended but 4 conductor cabling for Series, Parallel and Coil Splitting upon request at additional cost.
• Neck 380mm / 15" long -and- Bridge 150mm /6" long for bridge.

Connection means available

• Bare wire ends for soldering.
• Kinman connectors for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness- including the 2 pickup KHP-90 for Gibson style guitars.

Output Polarity: 

• in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
• in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
• opposite phase to Fender Strat
• ESSC versions can not be phase reversed and must be specially ordered as such.

Pot & Capacitor values

• Best with 500k Ohm for Volume & Tone.  Many Gibson's have 300k and that works fine too as does 250k.
• Normal tone cap value of 0.022µF in 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.

Pole spreads

that provide optimum string-over-pole alignment.  Our Ordering System automatically allocates the correct pole spacing according to the bridge spacing you indicate.

Covers and colors

• Open top Natural Nickel-Silver, highly recommended and have zero impact on sonic performance
• Closed top Natural Nickel-Silver, have low impact on sonic performance 
• Electro real Gold plating on closed top covers does impact on treble frequencies.
• Various colored top plates are available for open top covers (Black, Cream, White and 6 different Pearloid colors) with clear, scratch resistant protector plate.
• Kinman humbuckers are engineered differently without molded butyrate plastic bobbins.  Removing covers will not reveal bobbins and we advise against it.
